Knowing the top keyword searches can help you to target traffic for your website, or can it? Keywords are the words that an internet user will type into the search engine such as Google to find information or even to make a purchase. Some of the words and phrases are used millions of times each month so just imagine if those millions of views all headed towards your site. You can use tools such as Google Trends to highlight the most used keywords and you can either dig down and find information direct from Google each year showing which words were used the most as well as overall information. You can also search data on twitter and even facebook to get information through their search engines. So what are the top keyword searches?

How do you find the best keywords for your website?

Knowing the most searched keyword is not always going to be a huge help to you. Just because a word is searched a lot does not mean that it is going to convert into sales or traffic. Consider why people would type in Facebook; they are probably looking for the sign in page so that they can sign into their account. Same as Amazon they are looking to shop, but they have already decided that they are going to shop on Amazon. Ranking for these keywords is not likely to get you any business and it will also be next to impossible.

Can you rank for high traffic keywords?

The answer is that for some you can, but the benefits would be minimal for your site as they would be unlikely to convert. However in almost all cases it is very difficult indeed to rank for high traffic keywords as everyone is trying to do it. This means that the competition that you face is going to be huge and you will find it very difficult to rank well. This is why unless you are very lucky indeed to find a high trafficked keyword in a niche with little competition you will need to use long tailed keywords for which there is little competition but often a much higher chance of conversion.

Should we target high paying keywords?

Many people will go onto the Adwords keyword tool and will search for keywords that attract very high bids from advertisers. The idea being that they will then gain high value ads from those advertisers on their sites and make good money from adsense. The following are some of the best paying keywords for ads:

  1. Insurance - $55

  2. Mortgage - $47

  3. Attorney - $47

  4. Claim - $45

  5. Loans - $44

  6. Lawyer - $43

  7. Donate - $42

  8. Degree - $41

  9. Credit - $36

  10. Hosting - $32

So if you are looking for high paying ads to be displayed on your pages you could target these specific keywords. But again you are going to find that many others have had the same idea. You will find that only highly specialized and well established sites that are very relevant to the keywords are going to be ranking for these searches and you are unlikely to ever get anywhere near the top of the search results.

Selecting the best keywords for organic SEO marketing

Your keyword search results will very much depend on the competition that you face so selecting the most searched keyword or even the highest paying keywords is not going to get you very far. Much better to use the long tailed keywords that fewer people are targeting; unless of course you can be the first on the net with a topic that then trends.
